LED driver (power supply) – the foundation of LED lighting
An LED luminaire requires a driver, or power supply, to operate. It converts mains voltage (230–240 V) into a safe low voltage suitable for the luminaire, typically 12 V or 24 V (all Limente low-voltage luminaires operate at 24 V). This ensures safe operation and enables energy-efficient lighting.
In some luminaires, the driver is integrated into the fixture, allowing direct connection to mains voltage. In systems with a separate driver, choosing the right power supply is essential for a reliable and long-lasting lighting solution.
Compatibility ensures performance
Limente drivers are designed to work seamlessly with other LIMENTE products. All LIMENTE luminaires and LIMENTE SMART dimming systems are tested for compatibility already during the product development phase.
Compatibility affects not only functionality but also lighting quality, controllability, and lifespan. A properly selected power supply ensures stable light output, flicker-free dimming, and reliable performance of the entire system.
Proper sizing is essential
Drivers are available in a range of output levels. Choosing the correct unit depends on the total power consumption of the connected luminaires.
Start by calculating the combined wattage of all luminaires. For example, four 6 W luminaires require a total of 24 W. In this case, the driver should exceed that load – a 30 W unit would be a suitable choice.
Allowing sufficient power reserve improves system reliability and extends the lifespan of both the driver and the luminaires.
Dimming adds flexibility to lighting
Dimming is an important part of a practical lighting system. By adjusting the luminaires, you can tailor the lighting to different situations – from bright task lighting to soft, ambient light. LIMENTE luminaires dim smoothly and evenly, allowing you to transform the atmosphere of an entire space with a single adjustment.
The dimmer is installed between the power supply and the luminaires, and multiple luminaires can be connected, provided that the maximum load of the driver is not exceeded. Please note that LIMENTE power supplies cannot be dimmed on the primary side; dimming is always implemented on the secondary (low-voltage) side of the system.
Quality affects lifespan
The driver is one of the most critical components in LED lighting – and often the first to require replacement. That is why its quality should not be overlooked.
Limente places strong emphasis on high-quality components and construction to ensure long-term durability and to support the overall lifespan of the lighting system. Stable and clean power delivery reduces stress on the luminaires and helps maintain their performance over time.
A reliable system starts with the right choices
When luminaires, drivers, and control systems are properly matched and correctly sized, the result is a reliable and long-lasting lighting solution. A well-designed driver setup ensures safe, consistent, and energy-efficient performance for years to come.
